Who Wrote the Book of Hebrews?

The author of the Book of Hebrews is unknown but we do know that it was not the Apostle Paul.

1.     The salutation of PAUL is at the beginning of every epistle he writes (II Thes 3:17; Col 4:18). Paul dictated his epistles (Rom 16:32). The custom of the day was to put the salutation at the beginning of every letter (Dan 4:1; Acts 23:250. Also in the first chapter of every epistle he writes, he always writes from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 1:7; I Cor 1:3; II Cor 1:2; Gal 1:3; Eph 1:2; Phil 1:2; Col 1:2; I Thes 1:1; II Thes 1:2; I Tim 1:2; II Tim 1:2; Titus 1:4) The Book of Hebrew does not have the salutation of Paul nor is it written from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2.      The writer of the Book of Hebrews tells us his salvation was spoken of by the Lord at the beginning and was confirmed unto us by them that heard it (Heb 2:3). The writer also writes, “Unto us was the gospel preached.” (Heb 4:2) Galatians 1:11-12 the apostle Paul tells that he neither received it of man nor was he taught it, but by revelation of Jesus Christ. So how could he write the Book of Hebrews, when the author said that he heard it and it was preached unto him?

3.      Paul tells us that he is the apostle to the Gentiles (Rom 11:13) and there is neither Jew nor Gentile in this dispensation (Gal 3:28), so why would he write an epistle to the Hebrews?

4.      Romans 3:11 Paul tells us that there are none that seeks after God but the writer of the Book of Hebrews in chapter 11:6, tells us that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

5.      Hebrews 3:6 tells us that Christ is a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Phil 1:6 Paul tells us that we can be confident that Christ will keep us until that day.

6.      Hebrews 8:8-11 the writer tells us that a new covenant will be given to Israel. Paul never tells the church that it is under any covenant but in time past we were strangers from the covenant of promise and all that is needed is the blood of Christ (Eph 2:12-13).

7.      Hebrews 13:1-2 the writer tells us to entertain strangers because we maybe entertaining angels unaware. Colossians 2:18 Paul tells us that angels are not seen in this dispensation.

8.      Hebrews 6:4-6; 10:26 the writer tells us that salvation is based on what the person does. Paul tells us in this dispensation we are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption (Eph 4:30). In times past the Spirit fell on people that God had chosen but it could also leave them (I Sam 16:14). Their righteousness was obtained by doing the law (Deut. 6:25). In ages to come, the doctrine in the Book of Hebrews thru the Book of Revelation will apply.

9.      If the Hebrew always gave their salutation at the end of the letters, then why would Paul not sign his name at the end? (Heb 13:25) Also, why would all the other Hebrew Apostles not sign their epistles?

10.  II Peter 3:16 Peter tells us that he had a hard time understanding what Paul writes in all his epistles. He would not have any problems understanding the Book of Hebrews because he knew and preached the doctrine in it.

11.  Romans 1:17 Paul tells us that God revealed his righteousness from faith to faith. In time past, a man received righteousness by having faith in what God told him (Hab 2:4). But now we receive our righteousness by believing in what he done by his faith (Rom 2:22; Gal 2:16). So now we can understand faith (of a man) to faith (of Jesus Christ).
